“If you want to achieve something in life, you have to take risks” – Dipa Karmakar

Starting something new can always be intimidating at first, but you will never know the outcome of a new beginning if you don’t take the leap. Welcome to one of my new beginnings. I am Dr Parushinee Naidoo, founder and face of Skin Solutions. I have always been passionate about sharing my knowledge with others. In fact I got into the Medical Aesthetic field because I suffered from acne as a teenager and young adult. It was debilitating because it affected my self-esteem and made me socially reclusive. I was inspired to help people feel comfortable in their own skin because of my personal battle with acne and acne scarring. In 2017, I started Skin Solutions, an Aesthetic clinic with a focus on medically based skin and body treatments.

When I am not practicing I spend most of my time outdoors with my adventurous children and loving husband. I love fashion, and enjoy expressing myself through what I wear. Something not many people know about me is my love for all things Bollywood.

With this blog I hope to create a safe space for you to ask questions, leave comments and I can only hope that you find comfort in what I have to offer. Keep following for I will be guiding you through all things skin and getting you to feel #comfortableinyourownskin.

A question I get asked very often. Having a teenager, I resonate with parents who have to deal with their children’s insecurities about acne. It is something that most people deal with in life and due to hormonal changes that occur with teenagers going through puberty, acne can become particularly worse. So, we ask ourselves “What do I tell my teenager when they have their first breakout?” Here are 5 tips to help your teenager deal with their acne.

  1. Keep pillowcases and phone screens clean. Don’t pinch or squeeze your pimples.
  2. Don’t pinch or squeeze your pimples.
  3. Invest in a good cleanser and a light weight sunscreen.
  4. If it’s affecting your self-esteem, seek professional help.
  5. This shall pass.

The Dermamelan® Peel

At Skin Solutions, I aim to offer my patients the latest innovation to achieve the best results. A treatment I have found to be particularly popular in our practice is the Dermamelan® Peel. This is a medical depigmenting method that efficiently and progressively eliminates spots by acting on the accumulation of pigment in the skin providing a comprehensive and long- lasting outcome. The Dermamelan® Peel is part of a system that involves a preparation phase, peeling phase and then a maintenance phase.

I recommend the Dermamelan® peel to my patients because it is a safe option with definitive and long term results for treating extensive and resistant pigmentation. It is a non-invasive topical treatment. Patients with melasma, post inflammatory and photo pigmentation will find that they will benefit from the Dermamelan® peel. Book a consultation at Skin Solutions if you would like us to address your pigmentation.

My recommended product of the month goes to the
“Skin Solutions Rejuvenating Cleansing Gel”

This cleansing gel utilizes plant-based, pharmaceutical-grade Glycolic Acid (fermented sugar) and botanical extracts to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a firmer, more youthful appearance. The base of pure Aloe Vera offers advanced skin healing, hydration and support for dry skin. My goal was to create a deep cleansing gel that accelerates cell turnover with glycolic acid improving the appearance of pores, smoothing the skin’s surface and removing excess sebum. The pH balance of the skin is optimized and together with the botanical ingredients leaves the skin feeling hydrated whilst repairing and maintaining your skins barrier.
